Cocktail Quintet

It has been said that the cocktail quintet represents the essence of jazz in its most condensed yet effective and swinging form. The Palace Avenue Cocktail Quintet is strongly influenced by the music and styling of the small groups of Nat King Cole, George Shearing, and Errol Garner. The Quintet places the melody above all else, often with multiple instruments playing in unison or intricate harmony lines. The addition of bowed string bass solos, rich piano chords and the use of a flugelhorn (large bore trumpet) with its warm, velvet sound make this a light, subtle but highly sophisticated and swinging sound.
